Why is Tinzaparin Prescribed? (Indications)


This medication is an anticoagulant, prescribed for deep vein thrombosis with or without pulmonary embolism. It works by blocking the formation of blood clots.

When should Tinzaparin not to be taken? (Contraindications)

Contraindicated in patients with active major bleeding, heparin-induced thrombocytopenia and hypersensitivity.

What is the dosage of Tinzaparin?


DVT with or without PE- SC- The recommended dose is 175 anti-Xa IU/kg of body weight, once daily for at least 6 days.

How should Tinzaparin be taken?


It comes as a solution for injection to be administered by a healthcare provider under the skin.

What are the warnings and precautions for Tinzaparin?

* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of stroke, asthma, vision problems caused by diabetes, bleeding disorders, high blood pressure, kidney or liver problems, any allergy, who are taking other medications, elderly, children, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
* Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of stomach bleeding; avoid alcohol consumption.
* Avoid bruising or injury while taking this medication.
* Do not use it in newborns.

Most Common- Generalized bleeding.

Heart- Low/high blood pressure, fast heart rate and chest pain.
Central Nervous System- Dizziness, sleeplessness, confusion and headache.
Gastrointestinal- Flatulence, gastrointestinal disorder, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea and constipation.
Blood- Blood clot, decreased platelet counts and anemia.
Immunity- Infection.
Respiratory- Lung inflammation, respiratory disorder, blood clot in lungs, nosebleed and difficulty in breathing.
Skin- Rash, redness, itching, eruption and skin disorder.
Genitourinary- Urinary retention, painful urination, urinary tract infection and blood in urine
Miscellaneous- Fever, back pain and weakness.

* It may rarely cause a prolonged, painful erection; if it is so consult with your doctor.
