Why is Oxprenolol Prescribed? (Indications)

This medication is a non-selective beta-blocker, prescribed for angina pectoris, abnormal heart rhythms and high blood pressure.

When should Oxprenolol not to be taken? (Contraindications)

Contraindicated in patients with uncontrolled heart failure, asthma, pulmonary hypertension, shock, and hypersensitivity.

What is the dosage of Oxprenolol?

Adult: PO- The recommended dose is 80-160 mg/day in 2-3 divided doses. May increase dose 1-2 wkly. Max: 320 mg/day.

How should Oxprenolol be taken?

It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with or without food.

What are the warnings and precautions for Oxprenolol?

* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of low blood pressure or poor circulation, diabetes, liver or kidney impairment, heart block, myasthenia gravis, Prinzmetal's angina, any allergy, who are taking other medications, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
* Avoid abrupt withdrawal; withdraw gradually.
* It may cause drowsiness, dizziness or lightheadedness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.

Heart - Lung swelling, low blood pressure, sinus arrest, palpitation, chest pain, hot flashes and fainting.
Central Nervous System - Lightheadedness, headache, dizziness, weakness, anxiety, tingling, depression, nervousness, irritability, hallucinations, sleep disturbances, sedation and slurred speech.
Skin - Dry skin, rash, itching and increased sweating.
Genitourinary - Decreased sexual drive, impotence, weight gain and increased Blood Urea Nitrogen.
Eye and ENT - Dry and itching eyes, blurred vision, eye inflammation and ringing in the ear.
Metabolic - Decreased level of blood sugar level and elevated liver enzymes.
Blood - Decrease in white blood cells and platelets.
