Why is Mebeverine Prescribed? (Indications)


This medication is a musculotropic antispasmodic agent without atropic, prescribed for irritable bowel syndrome, and GI tract spasm. It works by relaxing the intestinal muscles causing the problem.

When should Mebeverine not to be taken? (Contraindications)


Contraindicated in patients with paralytic ileus.

What is the dosage of Mebeverine?


Adult: PO- Irritable bowel syndrome; GI tract spasm As HCl: 100 or 135 mg 3 times/day. Extended release 200 mg twice daily. As embonate: 150 mg 3 times/day.

How should Mebeverine be taken?


It comes as a capsule to take by mouth, with food.

What are the warnings and precautions for Mebeverine?

* Caution should be exercised in patients with liver and kidney impairment, heart block, porphyria, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
* It may cause dizziness, do not drive car or operate machinery while taking this medication.

What are the side effects of Mebeverine?

GI disturbances, dizziness, headache, sleeplessness, loss of appetite, decreased heart rate and hypersensitivity reactions.

What are the other precautions for Mebeverine?

* Avoid excess dosage.
