Why is Insulin Lispro Prescribed? (Indications)


This medication is a fast acting insulin analogue, prescribed for type 1 diabetes.

When should Insulin Lispro not to be taken? (Contraindications)

Contraindicated in patients with an episode of low blood sugar, and hypersensitivity.

What is the dosage of Insulin Lispro?


The dosage must be individualized. SC- The total daily insulin requirement may vary and is usually between 0.5 to 1 unit/kg/day.

It comes as a solution for injection to be administered by a healthcare provider under the skin.

What are the warnings and precautions for Insulin Lispro?

* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of kidney or liver impairment, nerve problems, adrenal, pituitary or thyroid problems, diabetic ketoacidosis, high blood sodium levels, alcoholism, any allergy, who are taking other medications, elderly, children, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
* It may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or changes in vision, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.
* Avoid alcohol consumption.
* Follow proper diet and regular exercise program as directed by your physician.
* Monitor blood sugar regularly while taking this medication.

What are the side effects of Insulin Lispro?

Flu syndrome, inflammation of pharynx, nose, headache, pain, increased cough , infection, nausea, accidental injury, fever, abdominal pain, weakness, diarrhea, painful menstrual period, muscle pain, and urinary tract infection.

What are the other precautions for Insulin Lispro?

* Avoid excess dosage.
