A teacher has decided to sue the Department of Education after she slipped on condoms and injured herself.

Karen Hollander has blamed the department for failing to clean up the condoms and other rubbish, and claims that this negligence made the area unsafe.

Hollander said she suffered injuries to her head and nervous system after her fall at the High School of Art and Design in New York City on November 12, 2008.

The suit says school officials failed to maintain safety in the cafeteria by allowing trash that included condoms to pile up on the floor.

"They caused, allowed and permitted condoms to be distributed by school personnel to the students, many of which were opened during the school lunch period and thrown on the floor," the Daily Telegraph quoted the suit as stating.
