The Environmental Working Group has decided to grade the best and the worst of sunscreens on the market even as temperatures are expected to soar during this week.
EWG said that brands like Badger, California Baby, Jason Naturals and UV Naturals are on top of the list, but added that protective clothing, hats and the shade offer the best protection.
AdvertisementLead researcher Jane Houlihan said that instead of going for products that are high in SPF, consumers will be better off choosing products that offer overall protection.
Recent reports have indicated that a vitamin A component called retinyl palmitate may actually be harmful to the skin and may accelerate skin damage and elevate skin cancer risk if exposed to sunlight after application. This component is found in over 40% of sunscreens on the market. The FDA is investigating the matter.
