Glossary

Hereditary: inherited or transmitted from parents to offspring

Germline mutation: Mutation occurring in the egg or sperm cell; the mutation will be passed on to offspring

Somatic mutation: Mutation occurring in non-reproductive cells; will not be transmitted to offspring

Preimplantation: Before the embryo (formed by in-vitro fertilization or IVF technique) is implanted into uterus
