Meningitis Outbreak in Nigeria Claims Five Lives

Cerebra Spinal Meningitis (CSM) has claimed five lives after an outbreak in the Sabon-Birni area of the Sokoto State. A parallel outbreak of measles has also been reported, though there have been no loss of lives.

The five dead persons were among the fourteen who were reported to be suffering from the CSM infections.

The state ministry of health has risen to the occasion and has expedited medical teams, drugs and vaccines to the affected areas, with a move to curb the spread of infection. The Acting Director, Medicals Services, Alhaji Maccido Dogon-Daji has advised people to keep the surroundings clean, sleep in well ventilated rooms and seek immediate medical attention in case of symptoms.
