Scientists at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) have developed a new variety of wheat, which will be beneficial for diabetics because of its low caloric content.

Food products that keep in check cholesterol levels in blood can be developed from this new 'Dicoccum' variety of wheat.

The All India Coordinated Research Project at the Dharwad center of University of Agricultural Sciences developed the Dicoccum variety called “DDK 1029”.

The food products of DDK1029 variety take time to dissolve in the body and very less calories are released. As it takes 5-6 hours for dissolving completely in the blood, the sugar levels are maintained.

From agricultural production point of view, DDK1029 has high yields and shows a high degree of resistance to diseases.
