Levodopa & Carbidopa: Drug to Treat Parkinson's Disease and Related Movement Disorders for Patient Education


Levodopa & carbidopa combination is used for treating parkinson’s disease symptoms such as stiffness, tremors, and movement restriction. It is also used for post-encephalitic parkinsonism and parkinsonism caused by carbonmonoxide or manganese poisoning. Levodopa works by getting converted to dopamine in the brain and carbidopa prevents the breakdown of levodopa before it reaches the brain. The combination of levodopa and carbidopa is also known as co-careldopa.
