NEW YORK, March 30, 2016 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Renowned Endodontist Dr. Scott Resnick, DMD, of NYC Endodontics, gave a lecture on using technology in endodontics on Monday, March 21. This is the latest installment in a series of lectures on the topic in and around New York City.
Resnick's talk focused on cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and the need for microscopes during treatment.
Endodontics is the field of dentistry focused on the treatment of diseases of dental pulp, the inner layer of the tooth. When working in such tiny spaces, getting a detailed and accurate view of the treatment area is essential for successfully performing root canal therapy and other procedures.
CBCT is a new technology that provides a 3D rendering of a patient's tooth. These scans are capable of showing structures and pathology that would be impossible to see in a traditional 2D x-ray. "It's like a cat scan for teeth," Resnick explains.
The scans are non-invasive, painless, and highly accurate, with a low level of radiation. The machine is an invaluable diagnostic tool for Endodontists.
"In my estimation, no Endodontist should be without one in their office," says Resnick.
Resnick also spoke on the importance of using microscopes during procedures. It is the standard of care for magnification, a necessity while working inside the confines of a single tooth.
