Symptoms
The main symptom of REM sleep behavior disorder is dream-enacting behavior, which can range from simple limb twitches to more complex movements.The features of REM Behavior Disorder (RBD) are:
- The body can become rigid and extremely tense during episodes of RBD.
- The attacks are triggered by dreams that involve violent activity such as fighting, dancing, running, chasing, or attacking.
- In the process they can injure their bed partners.
- RBD activity is usually confined to the bed and the surrounding area.
- But some people have been known to leave the bed, run into a wall, run through a window, or run down the stairs.
- People with RBD typically remember little or nothing of this activity unless the person wakes up spontaneously during the attack.
