Atria: There are 2 atria the right and the left, and these are the 2 superior chambers of the heart

Ventricles: These are again 2 in number, the right and the left and represent the 2 lower chambers

Ventricular septal defect: There is a hole in the wall or septum that separates the right and the left ventricles

Pulmonary artery: Conveys venous blood from the right ventricle to the lungs for oxygenation

Aorta: The largest artery in the body arising from the heart. Its branches carry blood to all parts of the body

Venous blood: The blood that returns to the right heart from all the organs in the body. This blood lacks in oxygen as the tissues have used it up and contains waste products that have to be eliminated. This blood is conveyed via the pulmonary artery to the lungs to be again oxygenated and distributed to the tissues
