1. Which doctor should I consult for polyuria?

You should first visit a general practitioner, who will refer you to a specialist such as a urologist or an endocrinologist if required.

2. When should I consult a doctor?

If you have excessive urination over several days that cannot be explained by increase in fluid intake or medications, you should consult a doctor immediately.

3. How can I know if I am suffering from polyuria?

In general, if you notice that you are passing more urine than usual, which persists, or your frequency of urination has increased, including the need for urination at night, you could be suffering from polyuria.


4. What is diuresis and what are its causes?

This is the increased or excessive production of urine. It is caused by several factors, including kidney failure, diabetes mellitus, diabetes insipidus, diuretic drugs, and polydipsia.

5. What is the normal volume of urine output per day?

The normal volume of urine production ranges between 800 to 2000 ml per day with a normal fluid intake of about 2 liters per day.
