Keloids are usually treated by a dermatologist or plastic surgeon.

2. Do keloids hurt?

Keloids expand in claw-like growths extending into normal skin. They do hurt with a needle-like pain or they itch. At times, if the keloid becomes infected, it may ulcerate.


3. What are hypertrophic scars? How do they differ from keloids?

A hypertrophic scar involves the deposition of excessive collagen that looks similar to keloids except that they do not extend beyond the wound margins and usually reduce in size over time. They are most often found at the sites of pimples, body piercings, burns and cuts.

4. Are keloid scars contagious?

No. Keloids are not contagious.
