Zoonosis: Viruses that shift hosts from animals to humans

Reverse zoonosis: Viruses that shift hosts from humans to animals

Live-attenuated virus vaccine: Viruses used as vaccines where the infectious particle is removed while the rest of the virus can multiply through targeted sequence deletions or mutations.


Inactivated virus: Viruses used as vaccines where radiation, heat, or chemicals inactivate the virus.

Nosocomial infection: Infections that develop in hospitals
