by Sheela Philomena on January 3, 2013 at 11:42 AM

Cholera has broken out in northern Zambia, 30 cases were recorded in the past three days, says a health official.

"We have so far 30 suspected cases of cholera admitted at Mambilima Mission hospital," regional medical officer Lackson Ndhlovu told public radio station Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC).

The outbreak was reported in Mwense district, about 700 kilometres (435 miles) from the capital Lusaka.

The waterborne disease comes with each rainy season in Zambia.
