The Magic of Numbers?

by Rathi Manoharon January 12, 2011 at 9:04 PM

Born on 11.01.11, at 11 am 01 minute 11 seconds. Too much of a coincidence? Not exactly. Just a planned event, supported by cooperative doctors.

Syed Imran Bukhari, a strong believer in numerology, wanted his second child to be born on what he believed to be an auspicious day and an auspicious time. So, through a caesarian section, Isa was born at the Cradle Maternity Center in Bangalore, a healthy 3-kg baby, fulfilling her father's wishes. She was just one of the 14 babies born that day at The Cradle, and only three of them were normal deliveries.

Dr. Praveena Shinoy at the Manipal Hospital reports that the 11th of January was actually better than the 1st of the month, another auspicious date. Compared to the eight deliveries on the 11th, there were 17 on the first.

Dr. R. Kishore Kumar, CEO and MD at the Cradle, is quick to state, "We generally don't encourage such requests, given that there might be adverse consequences. But if the delivery dates need to be shifted for one or two days, we sometimes allow it. Bigger adjustments, we just flatly refuse."
