Successful Knee Surgeries With New Device

by Savitha C Muppala on June 20, 2011 at 10:01 PM

Scientists have come out with a new device which can help boost the success rate of knee surgeries post injury.

Sportspersons will be happy to know that the earlier method of treating rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the knee with screws to keep them together, is now improved with the help of a new device called, GraftBolt.

The team at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland who worked on this device said the mechanism works by binding the bone and ligament together in such a way that the chances of slipping free are much less.

Dr Bin Wang, who led the team, said: "GraftBolt aims to improve the patient's quality of life by successfully repairing their injury first time and improving the quality of bonding of the graft to the bone."
