Sticky Cellophane Tape, a Novel Way to Collect Water Samples for Environmental Testing

by Savitha C Muppala on November 22, 2012 at 11:12 PM

Our commonly used sticky cellophane tape could prove to be a novel way to collect water samples for environmental testing.

Scientists found that cellophane tape's specialty made it just right for collecting droplet-sized water samples.

Researchers at Purdue University have found they are able to create a material which when exposed to water can effectively turn into a tiny robotic claw capable of capturing droplets of water.

"Say you were sampling for certain bacteria in water," said Babak Ziaie, a professor of electrical and computer engineering and biomedical engineering. "You could drop a bunch of these and then come the next day and collect them."
