Does financial prudence escape people once they tie the knot. A recent study surely seems to suggest that. Singles, research opines, are better at saving that their counterparts living with partners.

The average single person saved 8.68 percent of their monthly income during the period of three months whereas married or cohabiting people managed just 6.92 percent, reports the Scotsman.

The research, by National Savings and Investments, also found that more than half of all people were now setting aside money on a regular basis, the first time this has been the case since the winter of 2007/2008.

The amount people are saving has also reached its highest level since then at 6.98 percent of their pay, the equivalent of 87.37 pounds.
