Seat Belts Risky for Women While Driving?

by Savitha C Muppala on October 24, 2011 at 11:44 PM

The first thing most of us do before driving is to strap the seat belt, however a recent study seems to be questioning the safety aspect of what is considered a life-saving move.

It was found that the chances of injury for female drivers wearing seat belts were much more than strapped up male drivers. The number of spine and chest injuries was found to be high among women who wore seat belts while driving, than belted men.

The researchers discovered that the height of a woman and the posture played an important role, a fact that seems to have eluded manufactures who seem to have designed perhaps with only men in mind. Yet, this certainly does not mean that women should stop wearing seat belts.
