Marshall University opened a new sports medicine institute on September 6, 2015.

According to a news report, a crowd of roughly 200 people gathered in front of the Marshall Sports Medicine Institute for a celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony on the day.

"This facility is a game changer at Marshall University," said Marshall's Athletic Director Mike Hamrick. "It's only fitting that today we close down $35 million worth of new facilities for Marshall University - $35 million. That's amazing. This was a dream of many, and it's come true today."

The project is part of Marshall's Vision Campaign launched in 2011. The campaign was led by former NFL and Marshall quarterback Chad Pennington and former Marshall basketball star and NBA coach Mike D'Antoni.

The 19,995-square-foot institute is located at 2211 3rd Ave. in the front section of Chris Cline Athletic Complex.

The institute is home to between 15 and 20 employees. The institute also includes five doctors' offices, nine exam rooms, a physical therapy area, weight equipment for therapy, cardio equipment, and a hydrotherapy area.
