Hangover-free Beer Invented

by Sheela Philomena on August 17, 2013 at 12:31 PM

A beer that will hydrate rather than dehydrate the drinker has been invented by an Australian scientist.

The catch is that it works only with beers with lower alcohol content.

That does not worry the inventor, Associate Professor Ben Desbrow, a dietitian at Griffith University in Brisbane.

He is actually "quite pleased" he has not come up with a recipe for a hangover-free night out.

His aim is to make it safer for people to enjoy a beer after physical exertion, News.com.au reported.

Many people who sweat a lot, especially tradesmen, knock off work and have a beer. But alcohol in a dehydrated body can have all sorts of repercussions, including decreased awareness of risk.

Prof Desbrow says that you can either spend your time telling people what they shouldn't do, or you can work on ways of reducing the danger of something people do anyway.

He and his team manipulated the electrolyte levels of two commercial beers, one regular strength and one with 2.3 percent alcohol.

Prof Desbrow said that the enhanced light beer was by far the most effective at rehydrating drinkers.
