by Kathy Jones on May 2, 2014 at 11:41 PM

California-based educational entertainment company, Leapfrog, has developed a new fitness tracking device aimed at kids between four and seven years of age.

Called the LeapBand, the device is a rechargeable water-resistant digital wrist band that is programmed with 14 challenges which will encourage kids to stay physically active through gamification.

Rewards for completing the challenges include special points that can be used to unlock new features in the on-board games, which include a set of eight virtual pets that can be fed and played with. The device is expected to hit the market in August and will be available for around $40.
