Doctors Find Forceps from Past Surgery in Man's Body

An emergency surgery was performed on a British man after doctors had accidentally left a pair of eight-inch long forceps inside his body during an appendix operation.

As a medical practice, doctors generally take a count of all the surgical tools before and after the operation to check if anything is missing. And if the count doesn't tally, an x-ray of the full body is done. In the present case, they scanned the patient's abdomen but did not do a full x-ray.

Authorities from East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation confirmed that they have started the investigation.
