Dairy Fats May Reduce Diabetes and Obesity Risk

At a stage where people have started adopting to skimmed milk and low-fat dairy products, two new studies suggest that eating full-fat dairy foods instead of their low-fat or non-fat counterparts may help cut the risk for diabetes and obesity.


The first study conducted by Tufts researchers showed that risk of diabetes reduced by 46% among people who consumed full-fat dairy products. The study was published in the journal Circulation, where the authors looked at biomarkers in blood to predict the effects of full-fat dairy products on diabetes. Another study conducted among 18,000 middle-age women showed that obesity risk decreased by 8% among women who consumed high-fat dairy products.

‘Eating richer dairy products may help reduce diabetes and obesity risk.’

Since the studies are in very early stages, authors suggest that dairy fats may play a vital role in reducing the risk of diabetes and obesity. Therefore, it is always best to include two-three portions of dairy regularly in the diet as it is considered to be one of the important part of a balanced diet.
