Can Nicotinamide Mononucleotide be the Elixir-of-Youth?

Have scientists finally discovered the elixir-of-youth? An elixir-of-youth could be on the horizon as researchers are planning to conduct a clinical trial on humans to slow down aging.

Researchers from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) claimed to have discovered a compound that can effectively slow down aging. Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN) has been found to reverse signs of aging and prolong lifespan in mice.

‘Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) has shown plenty of promise in reversing signs of aging and increasing the lifespans of mice. Japanese scientists are about to put this compound to test in human clinical trials for the first time.’

As genome of mice is 98% similar to humans, scientists from the Keio University in Japan have planned to test the compound on ten healthy volunteers.

Nicotinamide Mononucleotide stimulates the production of sirtuins, a class of proteins that grow weaker as we age. This can reverse not only external aging but also internal signs such as a decline in eyesight, metabolism, and glucose intolerance.

Scientists hope that the compound will produce safe and effective results in humans. If this works, then the dream of anti-aging drugs could be fulfilled in the near future.
