Brain Development in Babies Hampered by Parental Fights at Home

A new study has pointed out that even as babies, arguments between parents can affect emotional development in childhood and can also change the way babies process the tone of voice.

Babies can respond to an angry tome of voice even when they are asleep. Babies' brains are vulnerable to the experiences in childhood and research has pointed out that extreme stress can negatively impact the brain and hamper development of the child.

"Even during sleep, infants showed distinct patterns of brain activity depending on the emotional tone of voice we presented," researchers said.

The researchers said that infants who belong to homes where there is increased conflict portrayed greater reactivity to an angry tone of voice in brain areas connected to stress and regulation of emotions.
