by Reshma Anand on December 11, 2015 at 3:42 PM

Alcohol consumption in moderate has been reported to have certain beneficial effects on our body. Likewise, a recent survey conducted by the Danish Alzheimer's Intervention Study (DAISY) reported that drinking moderate amounts of alcohol along with friends can reduce risk of death in people with Alzheimer's disease.

DAISY conducted the survey in 321 people suffering with Alzheimer's disease and analyzed whether moderate alcohol consumption had any impacts on their lives. They found that there was 77% reduced risk of death compared to people who drank a lot of alcohol.

‘Moderate alcohol consumption along with friends shown to reduce death risk in individuals with Alzheimer's disease.’

Researchers have reported that moderate alcohol alone did not have this effect because people who drank alcohol always had a richer social network. Thus, this socializing could have had an impact in their overall mental health.

The study has not established the association between alcohol and Alzheimer's disease and the authors concluded that they will not encourage or advise moderate alcohol consumption for Alzheimer's patients and they still need to conduct extensive research on this results.
