Being Near a Magnetic Field Makes It Difficult to Lie

The next time you want someone to tell the truth, just place him near a magnet. A new research published in the journal Behavioral Brain Research suggests that the interference of the brain due to magnetic field could make it more difficult to lie.

Two Estonian scientists Inga Karton and Talis Bachmann conducted the study on 16 participants, each of whom were shown different colored discs and were told that they were free to either tell the truth or lie.

The researchers then exerted transcranial magnetic stimulation to the left or right dorsolateral prefrontal cortices and found that those on whom the magnetic stimulation was applied on the left side lied more often while those with right-side stimulation lied less often.

The researchers though were quick to say that people can still lie under the influence of magnetic stimulation though it was more difficult to tell a spontaneous lie.
