Drug Name : Maprotiline

Indication : Maprotiline is a tetracyclic antidepressant. This test is done to evaluate toxicity and drug level monitoring of Maprotiline.


Physiology : Maprotiline is a tetracyclic antidepressant prescribed for depression, schizophrenia, idiopathic pain. Maprotiline is a potent inhibitor of of norepinephrine to presynaptic nerve terminal.

Normal Values :  200-600 ng/mL (721-2163 nmol/L)

Critical Values : >1000 ng/mL (> 3605 nmol/L)


Test Method : High performance liquid chromatography(HPLC), Gas chromatography(GC).

Side effects : Anticholinergic activity, Cardiovascular toxicity. At overdoses may cause coma, convulsions, dysrhythmias, hypotension.
