Why is Ranibizumab Prescribed? (Indications)


This medication is a selective vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) antagonist, prescribed for neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (AMD- loss of vision) and macular edema following retinal vein occlusion (RVO). It works by decreasing the growth of certain cells in the eye.

When should Ranibizumab not to be taken? (Contraindications)

Contraindicated in patients with eye infections and hypersensitivity.

What is the dosage of Ranibizumab?


The recommended dose is 0.5 mg (0.05 mL), to be administered by intravitreal injection once a month.

It comes as a solution for injection to be administered by a healthcare provider via an eye.

What are the warnings and precautions for Ranibizumab?

* Caution should be exercised in patients with history of increased eye pressure, undergone for light therapy, any allergy, who are taking other medications, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
* It may cause vision changes, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.
