Forget lotions, oils and pills -the best way to boost sexual prowess is exercise says a Turkish study that focused on swimming rats.
Whats more, physical activity might even boost erections in old age, the study has found.
To reach the conclusion, the researchers took rodents aged two years old equivalent to over 60 in human years and trained them in a water tank for 30 minutes a day.
After eight weeks they compared them with untrained rats and found increased testosterone levels and improved activity in the way they processed chemicals responsible for causing an erection.
Regular exercise may improve an erection by increasing penile neurotransmitter and plasma testosterone levels in both young and aged rats, News.com.au quoted the study, as stating.
Citing the results, Australian sexual health expert Dr Chris McMahon said: If you exercise these aged rats, who are probably parallel to aged men in their 60s and 70s, you can improve the way that their blood vessels work.
Theoretically, you can improve vascular health, cardiac health, increase longevity and quality of life, the expert added.
The study findings have been released at the Congress of the European and International Societies for Sexual Medicine.
