COLUMBUS, Ohio, May 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- SportsBrain, LLC, a healthcare company specializing in brain safety for athletes, students and military personnel, is re-locating its headquarters from Chicago to the Columbus area. The company uses the latest technology for concussion testing and management, including the Oculus Rift® Virtual Reality goggles which immerse users in a video gaming-like environment. The Oculus Rift system uses video gaming technology, including goggles and an Xbox-like controller. During the test, athletes perform a sequence of balance, reaction time and spatial memory tests. Unlike other concussion tests on the market, this technology puts users at ease, eliminates language barrier and cannot be faked or practiced.

"Brain safety is our #1 concern," explains Kristine Gross, SportsBrain CEO. "With our Oculus Rift technology and other services, we are experts at testing military personnel, students and athletes - from grade schoolers to professionals. We provide important data that compares pre and post-injury test results, so doctors can develop a care plan to safely return their patient to activity."

In most cases, with proper diagnosis and treatment, a concussion is a treatable condition and full recovery can be expected. However, Second Impact Syndrome (SIS) is a result of an acute, often fatal brain swelling that occurs when a second concussion is sustained before complete recovery from a previous concussion. Children under the age of 18 are at the highest risk for SIS as their brains are still developing. The CDC reports an average of 1.5 deaths per year from sports concussions. In most of these cases, a concussion, usually undiagnosed, had occurred prior to the final one.
