The case studies are among the first to be released in Maryland documenting the stories of a 59-year-old woman with Cervical Dystonia and a 20-year-old man with Muscular Dystrophy. The videos explore their journey with medical cannabis, detailing both the challenges and victories of using it to treat their conditions.

COLUMBIA, Md., April 9, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Howard County Medical Marijuana Dispensary Greenhouse Wellness Releases

First Patient Case Studies

Greenhouse Wellness, a medical marijuana dispensary in Howard County, and one of the first to open in the state, has released two patient case study videos this week.

One of the videos features Kim Boykin, a 59-year-old woman who has been suffering from cervical dystonia, a disease the falls under the umbrella of Parkinson's. After trying BOTOX injections and a variety of pain medication to no avail, Kim visited Greenhouse Wellness in January.

After three months of visiting the dispensary, Kim has found that a medical marijuana regimen of Synergy Balm, a topical with THC and CBD, Dixie Elixir, a THC tonic, and CBD vape cartridges have helped her reach periods of little to no pain. She is now beginning to wean herself off of other medications she was taking.

Boykin, who went on disability due to her disease and chronic pain says, "I'm ready to get back out into the world and start finding a part-time job again…I'm very thankful that Maryland has allowed [medical marijuana] to come. It has been extremely helpful and it's giving me hope again, which I had lost."

The second video features Adam Kirn, a 20-year-old wheel-chair bound college student who has muscular dystrophy, a genetic disease that causes progressive weakness and loss of muscle mass. Adam, who underwent spinal fusion surgery for scoliosis, experiences chronic pain and anxiety. Adam was taking several prescription drugs including but not limited to tramadol and oxycodone for pain, and Ativan for anxiety. Kirn found the side effects to be "nasty" and was hesitant to continue use as he had to continually increase the dosage of the pain medicines to achieve the same results.

Adam, who is supported by his family, visits the dispensary often with his caregiver father and has found that a medical marijuana regimen has allowed him to stop taking many of his prescription medication. Kirn says, "When I discovered medical cannabis, it's really changed my life because I was able to get off of those meds. In fact, I'm on very few meds right now. It's helped so much with my pain and my anxiety and my overall mood and my depression has gotten so much better."

Greenhouse Wellness, founded by Dr. Leslie Apgar, a licensed obstetrician and gynecologist, and Therapearl founder Gina Dubbe, prides itself on taking a strong medical approach. These case studies, although anecdotal, provide further optimism and validation for Dr. Apgar and Dubbe in medical marijuana's ability to treat chronic pain and diseases and help combat opioid use.

Dr. Apgar says, "I am practicing the most important medicine of my career. I had no idea the scope of suffering that medical cannabis can treat and I continue to educate myself on this fascinating plant in order to help our patients get the best results possible."
