"David has spent the majority of his career dealing with data challenges and is a thought leader in the industry, advocating for data governance, cleansing, and interoperability. His ideas, experience and passion are a perfect background to help guide Verinovum in strategic decisions and help us take advantage of the capabilities we have in a way that will improve quality and patient care, which is what Verinovum is all about," says Mark McCurry, CEO of Verinovum.

David began his career at Wadley Research Institute and Blood Bank in Dallas, TX, where he rose up the ranks from biostatistician to CIO and ultimately to CEO. He then served as SVP and CIO at Texas Health Resources for 15 years and at Baylor Health Care System for five years.

In 2012, David accepted a White House appointment to serve as the first Principal Deputy National Coordinator at the Department of Health and Human Services' Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) and was also Chief of Staff and CIO through 2013.

"The biggest challenge I see in information systems is the tsunami of data; the industry is being overwhelmed with the volume. For so long, we were struggling to get data out. Now, we're struggling to keep it under control," says Muntz. "The tools and intelligence behind Verinovum allow healthcare organizations to stand against this tsunami effectively, and to turn data into information and information into knowledge. Without it, we would drown."

In his career, David led teams as large as 770, with budgets of more than $500M that authored, acquired, and implemented many forms of health information technologies, including EHRs, from all the major vendors. Under his leadership, his teams managed more than 180 project go-lives annually. Due to his teams' efforts, David was named Innovator of the Year by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) at two separate employers. His organizations were recognized nationally for innovation in information technology for more than 25 years in a row, including during his time in the federal government. In 2014, the CHIME Board presented David with its CIO Legacy Award.

David received an MBA from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas and an AB from Columbia College in New York City.
