As part of its business process, Consortium Health Plans is required toprovide large amounts of database information to the Blue Cross Blue ShieldSystem as part of its sales cycle, using Oracle database software as itsenterprise data manager. Prior to the ONStor implementation, the storageinfrastructure was failing in its ability to support such a large draw on theOracle system. In addition, the company found that office automation filestorage was growing at a rate of 15 percent a year. It needed a system thatcould accommodate this growth, recognizing that it could be unpredictable andspike at various times during the year. Therefore, Consortium Health Plansneeded to implement an entirely new storage system for structured andunstructured data. The company also chose to leverage the virtual serverfeature of the ONStor to hold compressed images of other servers if needed fordisaster recovery. They also plan to consolidate their existing standalonefile servers onto the ONStor Bobcat.

"I like the flexibility we have now," says Fountaine. "We can add anotherNAS head for redundancy and we can grow storage independently through theaddition of disk arrays of our choice. This solution also consumes less powercompared to what we had before and is more efficient. ONStor has changed ourentire storage management system -- for the better."
