California Institute for Nursing and Health Care Appoints Judith G. Berg, RN, MS, FACHE as New Executive Director

OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The California Institute for Nursing and Health Care (CINHC) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Judith G. Berg, RN, MS, FACHE to the position of Executive Director of CINHC. Berg, an officer and founding board member of CINHC, has provided leadership on a number of initiatives of the non-profit organization since it was founded in 2001. "CINHC's mission is to transform the capacity of nurses to meet the evolving needs of California residents and Judee Berg brings exceptional leadership, combined with a wealth of experience, to help us meet our mission," said Priscilla Gonzales-Levia, Chair of the Board of Directors. "CINHC will be in excellent hands as I step down from the helm," said Deloras Jones, RN, MS. "Judee's involvement with CINHC since its inception will make this a seamless and successful transition."  Berg succeeds Jones in assuming the role of executive director on September 24, 2012.

In mid-September, Berg will leave her current position as Vice President and Nurse Executive with the Gannett Healthcare Group (publishers of Nurse.com).  Prior to her work with the Gannett Healthcare Group, Berg was the chief nurse executive for two large hospitals, Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia and Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.  Additionally, she has been a hospital-based nurse educator.  Berg previously served in state and national nursing leadership roles as the President of the Association of California Nurse Leaders' Board of Directors and in various national leadership positions with the American Organization of Nurse Executives.

"I am eager to take on this new challenge and look forward to working with the CINHC Board, staff, Advisory Committee and current partners to advance CINHC's work in developing sustainable solutions to California's nursing workforce issues," said Berg.  In assuming her new role, one of Berg's key objectives will be to create new partnerships to sustain CINHC and its critical work in preparing the workforce to meet the demands of California's changing health care delivery system. 

CINHC, a 501(c)(3) organization, serves as the California's nationally recognized nursing workforce center and is located in Oakland, CA.  Jones is the founding Executive Director of CINHC, which began its work in 2003 addressing the California nursing shortage.

The California Institute for Nursing & Health Care is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that transforms the capacity of nurses to meet the evolving health needs of Californians by partnering with nurse leaders, educators, providers, payers, policy leaders and consumers.
