Benefit of exercise for pregnant women: • 40% reduced risk of miscarriage • Reduction in pregnancy associated discomfort • Promotes good sleep • Enhanced energy levels • Reduces risks of premature labor • Reduces risks of gestational diabetes and pregnancy-induced hypertension • Reduces lower back pain • Reduced loss of bone density during lactation • Improved bowel movement • Improved flexibility of joints and muscles Benefit of exercise during labor • Consistent exercise during pregnancy increases the level of endorphins in the woman’s body. During labor, there is a gush of endorphins in the woman’s body to help her deal with the pain of uterine contractions. • Research shows that those women, who exercised consistently during pregnancy, released double or treble the quantity of endorphins during labor. Many of them did not need epidurals as compared to women who did not exercise. • Further, incidences of cesarean sections in exercising women were found to be much less as compared to those who were sedentary during their pregnancy.
