Sisko Foundation Gears Up to 'Pick Up The Pace Against Breast Cancer'

RALEIGH, N.C., Sept. 18 The Raleigh based Sisko Foundationis once again expanding its successful "Raise A Racquet Against Breast Cancer"tennis event with the third annual "Pick Up the Pace Against Breast Cancer" 5Kwalk/run on Sunday, September 23 outside the RBC Center. NBC-17's Kim Genardowill once again act as official starter.

"We are excited to have the tennis event in the spring and the walk in thefall to kick off October's Breast Cancer Awareness Month" said SiskoFoundation co-founder, and President, Michelle Siler. "The tennis event hasbeen very successful for us, but we wanted to do something that would includepeople outside the tennis community. A walk is something almost everyone canparticipate in."

The cost is $25 per participant for pre-registration and $30 at the door.and begins at 1:30 p.m. The race will also serve as a sanctioned andChampionChip timed run.

The course starts on the grounds of the RBC Center on the arterial roadwhere State Farm and Westchase intersect. The course then runscounterclockwise around the RBC Center, turns right and heads north on EdwardsMill Road. Participants will then turn left back into the RBC Center andcontinue straight on Westchase to the finish line.

Groups are encouraged to participate. "We would love to have people ofall ages, breast cancer survivors, supporters, families and anyone who justwants to make a difference come join us to raise a lot of money to fight thisdisease," said Siler, who is a breast cancer survivor.

The on site Glaxo SmithKline Health Fair will feature over 20 vendorsproviding information services and products related to breast cancer andgeneral wellness.

Nearly 4,900 North Carolinians were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007and just over 1200 of these cases proved to be fatal. Founded in 2000, theSisko Foundation's mission is to raise awareness of breast cancer, fundimprovements in research and treatment and support breast cancer patients andtheir families. Since it's inception, the Foundation has generated over$280,000, with proceeds dispersed exclusively in the Triangle.
