Rendell Administration Awards $385,000 to Expand Health Care Partnership, Train Workforce in Pennsylvania

South Central PA Employers Participate in Improved Service, Heath Care Careers Initiative



YORK, Pa., Oct. 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Department of Labor & Industry Acting Secretary Sandi Vito today announced the award of $385,000 in Industry Partnership and Industry Partnership Training funds to the South Central Pennsylvania Healthcare Industry Partnership. The investment will support efforts to recruit students to careers in health care, provide advanced training to the current workforce and improve regional health care systems.

Combined with $405,000 in private matching funds, the total investment is $790,000.



The South Central Healthcare Industry Partnership is a consortium of more than 300 employers in Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Juniata, Lebanon, Perry and York counties. To date, nearly 1,450 workers have received advanced trained through this partnership.

"Pennsylvania's population is among the nation's oldest," Vito said during the announcement at York Hospital. "Employers in this partnership are combining their resources and efforts to ensure that Pennsylvanians have access to world-class health care, now and for years to come.

More than 6,100 companies are participating in 90 active partnerships in 11 industries, and over four years, more than 61,000 employees from participating companies have completed, or are currently engaged in, industry partnership worker training.



These targeted investment grants, made possible through funding by the General Assembly and administered by local workforce investment boards, help industry partnership participants identify specific training needs and skill gaps; help connect young people to careers; help educational and training institutions arrange curriculum to meet business demands; address worker recruitment and retention; develop career ladders within companies; highlight best practices; and promote communication among companies.
