"Several studies have found a link between stress and an increased risk of breast cancer," noted Eric Barton, Regional Developer for Massage Envy. "While more research is needed, experts know that relaxation can strengthen a person's immune system and help them fight all types of illnesses. Massage for the Cure is one way of promoting personal health and wellness, while giving our clients and community the opportunity to support individuals currently battling breast cancer."

The Massage for the Cure event is open to the public and requires an appointment at any of the D.C. metro area Massage Envy clinics. All proceeds from Massage for the Cure will support breast cancer education, screening and treatment initiatives in communities across the US.

This year alone, more than 180,000 women and men in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will lose their lives to the disease. A woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes and the disease claims another life every 13 minutes.

Since the first Massage for the Cure event in 2005, Massage Envy has raised over $800,000 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure. This year, 590 Massage Envy clinics in 40 states are participating in the event.

Appointments for Massage for the Cure can be made by contacting any DC area Massage Envy clinic directly or by visiting MassageEnvy.com. A complete listing of all Baltimore and D.C. area locations of Massage Envy can be found at www.MassageEnvy.com.
