HARRISBURG, Pa., Dec. 12 This morning the Department of Health was notified that Commonwealth Medical Center, 2500 Hospital Dr., Aliquippa, made the decision to close the hospital effective today. Based on the hospital's decision to close, the Department of Health has revoked the hospital's license. The department took this action to protect patients that may seek emergency treatment since Commonwealth Medical Center is unable to operate as a hospital.

As part of the revocation order, Commonwealth Medical Center is required to secure the building and immediately cover the blue hospital signs on the roadways directing people to the hospital.

The skilled nursing facility on the hospital campus operates under a separate license from the hospital. The facility will remain open until the three residents in the skilled nursing unit are discharged or relocated to another facility.
