WASHINGTON, Nov. 7 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In response to a flurry of news attention to a new study in The Journal of the American Medical Association that investigated correlations between body weight and cause of death, the Campaign to End Obesity, a non-profit, non-partisan coalition dedicated to driving policy changes that will reverse the obesity epidemic, is warning individuals and policy makers to use caution when applying today's headlines to their lives and work. Although this study found that overweight does not appear to be associated with increased risk of death from cardiovascular disease or cancer, it is associated with increased risk of death from diabetes and renal disease. It is also linked to obesity, which is associated with increased risk of disability and death from not only cardiovascular disease and cancer, but from a host of other disease as well.
