CHICAGO, Feb. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Illinois Medical District (IMD) Guest House, a Chicago-based not-for-profit, celebrates 10 years of serving families with a VIP Open House on February 24th.  The event will take place at the Guest House, which offers 50 fully furnished one-bedroom apartments to patients and their families who must travel to receive medical treatment.  It is the only facility in the Chicago area that supports patients of all ages, receiving any type of treatment.

"The Guest House started out with 4 apartments in 2005," said Executive Director Michael Mayse, "and as we've grown, our core mission has remained the same: to relieve some of the stress that patients and their family members endure when they must seek medical treatment far from home."

"We are grateful to have built productive relationships with our IMD Hospital partners - Rush University Medical Center, John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, and the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System," explained Board Chair Lisa Saul.  "We also deeply appreciate the partnership with the Editha House Foundation.  Thanks to these partners and other generous donors, we are proud to say that we never turn patients away for monetary reasons."

Expected attendees include people who helped IMD Guest House Foundation throughout the last 10 years.  Mr. Mayse and the staff will welcome elected officials, civil servants, current and former Board members, leaders from IMD Partner hospitals, healthcare professionals and supporters.

In January, IMD Guest House opened 10 new apartments to begin serving military veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), receiving treatment through the Rush Center for Veterans and their Families Road Home program. Staff from the Veterans Administration and other local organizations that support veterans will attend as well.

"It feels good to serve veterans and their families because the need is so great," Mr. Mayse continued.  "Our facilities fit the requirements of the Road Home program, because our fully-furnished apartments are ideal for families receiving treatment.  We hope that IMD Guest House can be part of the process that helps veterans who are struggling re-engage in civilian life."
