"Achieving a 92.5% growth rate from 2004 to 2007 has been a great teameffort," says Robert F. Burgess, Jr., President & CEO of Heartline. Despite rising costs and an uncertain economy, Heartline has continued tothrive. "We are in the business of health and quality of life. The Americanpublic is more aware than ever of the obesity issue and its effect on youthand are willing to support efforts to overcome it," says Charles Amazeen,Heartline's Operations Director. Despite budget cuts, middle and high schoolathletic directors continue to realize the impact they have on young lives andhave fought hard to provide their students with the tools they need to learnlife-long fitness.

"The staggering statistics regarding obesity in this country are signenough that what we are doing is extremely critical," says Burgess. Accordingto the Center for Disease Control, the entire nation, with the exception ofone state (Colorado) have over a 20% obesity rate (BMI is 30 or higher). Inthe Mid-Atlantic area, that number jumps to between 25-29%. The percentage ofoverweight and obese Americans (BMI from 25% and higher) is between 57.6% and79.6% depending on sex and race, says the American Heart Association's 2008Statistical Fact Sheet. "While many fast food chains including Wendy's andDunkin Donuts are beginning to offer healthier alternatives, this alone doesnot solve the problem," says Erin Marr, Heartline's Business Systems Analyst."We believe the solution is found in combining better eating habits with anincrease in both cardiovascular and strength training. Only then will thesestatistics improve."
