Did you know that cleaning products are some of the most dangeroussubstances in the home? Linda Chipperfield, Vice President of Marketing forGreen Seal, explains. "That danger has been cited by the Consumer ProductSafety Commission, and the Environmental Protection Agency states the averageAmerican home contains 63 hazardous products. Their presence in everydayproducts raises concerns of possible health and environmental problems." Infact, many of the unregulated chemicals found in household products are noteven allowed in workplaces due to the Occupational Safety & HealthAdministration regulations."
The Green Seal-certified mark on a label assures consumers that a producthas been carefully evaluated by an independent organization and found to meetleadership levels of health and environmental criteria as well as metrequirements for product performance.
Chipperfield points out that "Consumers and the Market have shown asubstantial increase in interest for green and non-toxic products.Consumers/Women who comprise just over 50% of the U.S. population, make over80% of the consumer purchasing decisions and that consumer spending accountsfor two-thirds of U.S. GNP. And, according to Supermarket News, the categoryof environmentally responsible household cleaners is performing so well thatsupermarket chains like "Price Chopper, Schenectady, N.Y.; Kowalski's Markets,St. Paul, Minn.; and Lakeland, Fla.-based Public are adding more SKUs to theirproduct mix and doubling the space they give the category."
