PSA with Holly Robinson Peete conveys important nutritional messages

FALLSTON, Md., March 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Actress and philanthropist Holly Robinson Peete has partnered with The Mexican Hass Avocado Importers Association (MHAIA) on a public service announcement (PSA) inspiring adults to "lead by example" by making smart food choices their children can emulate. MHAIA's goal is to help reduce the incidence of childhood obesity by encouraging families to eat more fruits and vegetables.

In the PSA, Peete, a mother of four, reminds adults that children observe and follow everything they do and, as a result, can have a positive influence on their children's eating habits and behaviors. This is illustrated throughout the PSA with footage of a young girl watching as her mother prepares a nutritious meal, unloads groceries and eats a nutritious snack.

"The avocado industry is committed to curbing childhood obesity and the message behind the PSA offers one way parents can help kids maintain a healthy weight," explains Mike Browne, Chairman of MHAIA. "By serving more nutrient dense foods, like avocados, parents can have a significant impact on their children's eating habits."

A three-slice (1 oz) serving of avocados has 50 calories and contributes nearly 20 vitamins and minerals and the "good" fats. This nutrient dense fruit is a good choice for families to enjoy because avocados can bring a creamy, delicious flavor to many recipes.

In addition to the PSA, MHAIA has been promoting the nutritional value and versatility of Avocados from Mexico through a multi-level integration with NBC's The Biggest Loser  (Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT) in partnership with the NBC Universal Television Consumer Products Group and Reveille, LLC, the production company behind The Biggest Loser.  The integration includes a segment on the hit television show, print and digital advertising, retail displays, a promotional sweepstakes and social media components.
