INDIANAPOLIS, June 7 Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield announced today that the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) Office of Medicaid Policy and Planning (OMPP), has announced its recommendation to enter into contract negotiations with Anthem to provide benefits to enrollees in the Hoosier Healthwise Medicaid managed care program and the Healthy Indiana Program (HIP). Anthem was one of three plans selected to begin contract negotiations. If contract negotiations are successful, the new contract will be effective January 1, 2011.

Earlier this year, FSSA solicited proposals to reprocure the managed care contracts that -- in a unique move -- will combine Hoosier Healthwise and HIP under one contract with the state of Indiana. The combination of the Hoosier Healthwise and HIP programs will create an innovative opportunity for the state to offer a range of options for qualifying individuals and families in Indiana.

"Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is very proud of this collaborative effort to serve both Hoosier Healthwise and Healthy Indiana Plan enrollees," said Robert Hillman, president and general manager for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Indiana. "We look forward to our continued relationship with the state to help provide Hoosiers with access to much needed health programs and services through this new and innovative model."

Since 2007, Anthem has served Hoosier Healthwise members and currently serves more than 160,000 members in the program. In addition to providing access to health care services, members enrolled in Anthem's Medicaid managed care plan have access to a variety of care management and preventive programs to help members stay healthy and to help manage chronic conditions such as asthma and diabetes. In 2008 Anthem joined the state in providing benefits to enrollees in the Healthy Indiana Plan and currently serves 30,000 members enrolled in HIP.

"We know that today more than ever, many families in Indiana rely on these state funded programs to access needed healthcare. We are very pleased to continue our relationship with the state of Indiana to provide Hoosiers access to quality healthcare," said Kevin Hayden, president for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield State Sponsored Business.
